April 17, 2010– Thousands of walkers gathered outside the Canadian Embassy for DC’s annual Walk MS on Saturday.

“MS affects the way the brain communicates with the body and can affect the optic nerve,” Chris Broullire, National Capital Chapter President said. “It can affect the way you move.”

Symptoms of MS range from numbness and tingling, to paralysis and blindness. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS are unpredictable in each person with the illness.

So, walkers braved the 3 mile walk through downtown and raised money to help find the cause and cure of MS.

Teams donned special t-shirts and posters to share their stories with others in the fight against MS. For more information about the National MS Society and multiple sclerosis, click here.

Students are sprawling all over American University’s campus at the first sign of heat and sunshine.

In mid-March, DC got its first blast of real, “shorts” weather and students quickly grabbed their blankets and ran outdoors.

“We made some moves,” said a few students who got creative and managed to find a kiddie pool to sit by.

Yes, springtime has finally come to the District and students are doing anything they can to stay outside and soak in the sun, even if if means skipping class.

And teachers? Well, it’s time to bring out some extra measures to ensure your students make it to class.

Valentine’s Day might have been over, but that didn’t stop thousands from “loving the run they’re with.”

Pacers Running Stores hosted their first ever “Love the Run You’re With” Valentine’s 5k over the last weekend in February after Snowmageddon hit D.C.

Singles, couples, and those whose relationships are “complicated,” much like Facebook, donned racing bibs in different colors to signify their relationship statuses.

“We’ve found that doing themed runs makes it more exciting for our runners,” Chris Farley said, owner of Pacers Running Stores.

At the end of the race, runners participated in karoke at Champps Pentagon Row and bought that cute green-bibbed runner, who caught their eye at mile two, a drink.

American University athletes are helping young girls celebrate the 24th annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD).

When Title IX was enacted in 1971, only 1 in 27 girls participated in high school sports. Today, one in three girls in high school participate in athletics.

“It’s a great way to show them what sports are available to them,” Anne Ourand said, whose daughter participated in the day’s festivities.

NGWSD is celebrated in 50 states as a way to remember Olympian player Flo Hyman. Hyman was an exceptional volleyball player who worked for equality in women’s sports.

It has since evolved into “a day to acknowledge the past and recognize current sports achievements…and the continuing struggle for equality and access in women’s sports.”

For some people, breakfast typically includes eggs, toast or cereal. But at Perry’s restaurant in Adams Morgan, Washington, D.C., customers get more than just the usual breakfast foods.

Perry’s is considered a one-of-a kind brunch spot in the district. Drag queens perform Sundays at 11am and 1 pm while diners munch on breakfast and “asian-fusion” foods.

“It’s always busy and there’s always a line,” general manager Devin Sparks said. Seems like customers just can’t get enough of the glitter and glam.

Just a few words of caution: the Queens are in complete control, and will target anyone. If you’re a sensitive person, Perry’s probably isn’t for you. If you’re a comedy-loving, out-going sort of person, then Perry’s Drag Queen Brunch is just your kind of place.
